Babe Ruth League, Inc. is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to developing better citizens by providing properly supervised baseball and softball competition for players 4 through 18 years of age. Established in 1951 and incorporated just one year later, there are now over 50,000 teams competing in over 10,000 leagues. Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia compose the Southeast Region, one of eight Babe Ruth Regions covering the United States and Canada. Each Region fields teams in Babe Ruth’s eight Divisions in Baseball and Softball. Baseball Divisions include Cal Ripken (ages 4-12), Babe Ruth 13-15 Year-olds, and Babe Ruth 16-18 Year-olds. Softball Divisions include 12 & Under, 16 & Under, and 18 & Under. In addition, a special Bambino Buddy-Ball Division was added in 2000 to bring the great game of baseball to children with documented special needs. It also welcomes children to the league who wish to serve as “buddies” for the players in this Division.
Leagues that charter with Babe Ruth League and conduct a spring season of local league and interleague games are eligible to participate in the annual tournament competition that follows. Each chartered league can select a tournament team of players from specific age groups, who can earn their way to a World Series tournament by participating in their local District, State, and Regional tournaments, where the Champions advance to the next level. The Babe Ruth tournament trail for baseball features World Series for the Cal Ripken 10-Year-olds, 12-Year-olds Major60, and 12-Year-olds Major70, and for the Babe Ruth 13-Year-olds, 14-Year-olds, 13-15 Year-olds, and 16-18 Year-olds. Invitational World Series are held for the Rookie, 9-Year-olds, and 11-Year-olds Major70 age groups. In softball, the tournament trail leads to Invitational World Series for each of the 8 & Under through 18 & Under age groups.
